There’s more to a city vacation than hustle and bustle… Contributor Gina Baksa shares details of the top luxury spa hotels in Berlin
The capital of Germany since 1991 and home to its Federal Government, Berlin has played a major role in European history. Renowned for its wild nightlife, Berlin also offers more highbrow pursuits, including world-class museums on Museum Island in the Spree River, an eclectic arts and music scene, as well as superb local and international restaurants and world-famous shopping along the Kudamm.
Fun things to do in Berlin include visiting parts of the Berlin Wall still standing, the Brandenburg Gate, Tiergartenand, of course, Checkpoint Charlie. There are also many parks and gardens to enjoy.
And for those who enjoy a little (or a lot!) of pampering, why not book a spa treatment or massage at one of the leading luxury hotels in Berlin? To help you find the best places to be spoiled rotten, here are a few of our favourite top luxury spa hotels in Berlin.
The Top Luxury Spa Hotels in Berlin
Enjoying a central Gendarmenmarkt location between the river and the Tiergarten, this boutique Berlin spa hotel may not have the plushest décor, but its interiors are modern and light-filled, with plenty of areas in the lobby for working and meeting friends or clients.
The health club at the Hilton Berlin boasts an enticing 46-foot swimming pool alongside the salon, which offers an extensive range of body treatments using Elemis products. Book a mud bath or couples massage, or opt for a deluxe mani-pedi and facial after relaxing in the steam room. Work out in the 24-hour fitness room-we love the Precor equipment-before dinner at the in-house Mark Brandenburg restaurant.
Rooms here are comfortable and stylish, and many have panoramic views over the Deutscher Dom Cathedral. All the main sights are within a 25-minute walk.

Waldorf Astoria Berlin
One of the very best hotels in Berlin, the award-winning Waldorf Astoria Berlin has it all: a superb location on Hardenbergstraße and the tallest five-star hotel suite in Berlin. Take the elevator to the 31st floor and step into the privately accessed luxury of the Ambassador Suite-a luxurious home away from home for presidents and royalty. Private access here makes for a very exclusive stay with 360-degree panoramic views of the German capital from the terrace balconies-and even a grand piano.
Feeling peckish? Mediterranean dishes await in ROC, while you can do your Downton over high tea in the 15th floor library lounge. Of course, you’re here for the spa which is where the Waldorf excels: a collaboration with Guerlainmeans luxurious treatments and world-class products. Indulge in the hot tub, steam, and sauna, a five-sense hydrotherapy shower, pool, and a 24-hour fitness room.

Berlin’s largest hotel also happens to be one of the top luxury spa hotels in Berlin, boasting a luxurious 400 square foot wellness area. Detox at the Estrel Hotel with a leisurely sauna and steam, go Wim Hof in the ice fountain, and enjoy a gentle pummelling from the massage showers. There’s a relaxation zone here and the adjacent well-equipped fitness area is ideal for working out beforehand.
This massive resort hotel-just 13-kilometers from Berlin’s Brandenburg Airport-is part of the Estrel Congress Centreand has 1,125 rooms and suites. For the ultimate in Berlin luxury accommodations, we recommend the Presidential Suite. Imagine having the entire 17th floor to yourself-with panoramic views over Berlin. Boutique hotels in Berlin don’t come much better than the impressive Grand Hyatt Berlin. Centrally located on Potsdamer Platz in the vibrant Mitte district, guests are moments from iconic sightseeing such as Checkpoint Charlie, the Brandenburg Gate, and the tranquil green spaces of the Tiergarten park.
Reserve the 210 square meter Maybach Suite for the very best Grand Hyatt experience: panoramic views of Marlene-Dietrich-Platz below, a grand piano for the ivory ticklers, plus a fully equipped kitchen and conference room.
If you can tear yourself from your suite, we recommend a few laps in the heated pool on the top floor. There’s a gym here, as well as a sauna and a day spa which offers an inspired selection of beauty treatments. It’s the perfect way to burn off the delicious Asian-inspired dishes at the Vox Restaurant, while whisky connoisseurs will want to taste one of the 150 varieties on offer at the Vox Bar.

Titanic Chaussee Berlin
The oddly monikered Titanic group of hotels originated in Turkey and the group have bought their unsinkable brand to Germany. Located near the main station, the Titanic Chaussee has its home in the creative Hackescher Markt Mitte district. This popular area has a distinctly funky vibe, thanks to the local galleries, markets, shops, bars, restaurants, and eclectic nightlife scene.
The hotel has two floors dedicated to wellness, with a massive gym area along with an indoor pool, sauna, and steam room. Choose the top-floor Titanic Suite with its sound-proofed windows overlooking Berlin, and a separate seating area and dedicated workspace. Although there are plenty of excellent restaurants in the neighborhood, we recommend sampling the Mediterranean cuisine and tasty Sicilian flavours at the on-site Pascarella.

Titanic Gendarmenmarkt Berlin
Sister hotel to the Chaussee, the snazzy Titanic Gendarmenmarkt is, as its name suggests, centrally located near the main Berlin sightseeing areas, as well as top shopping and entertainment. Accommodation at the Titanic Gendarmenmarkt is minimalist yet warm with white, red, and brown the main colour accents.
Fix a Nespresso and hunker down in the impressive Gendarmenmarket Duplex Suite situated over two floors. This apartment-like suite with two marble bathrooms faces Franzosische Street and boasts a living room, bedroom, and lounge area protected from the buzzy exterior by soundproofed openable windows.
The massive Befine Sports & Spa offers a detoxifying Turkish bath, a well-appointed gym, and a selection of body and face treatments. Hungry guests will appreciate the in-house Grill Club restaurant with its booth-like seating, open kitchen, and funky lighting, and the adjacent bar has live music on the weekends.
